Dear Bobby Valentine

Forgot to include this in my sports post last night.  I didn’t really think much of Bobby Valentine becoming the Red Sox manager.  It didn’t work out well for him with the Mets, despite some humor here and there.  And, with the Red Sox dismal collapse last year (can’t say much here, those who live in glass houses don’t throw stones), they probably needed someone with a bit more discipline.

Bobby’s done his best to keep himself in the press since his hiring, but his most recent stint is really reaching just a bit.

Bobby is complaining because the Yankees wouldn’t play extra innings in a spring training game.

“They had plenty of pitching,” Valentine said. “Probably too long of a ride.”

“The umpire came over and said we couldn’t play,” Valentine said. “I don’t care about not playing. Why do I have to warm up my pitcher who is trying to make the team, coming in a tie game against the Yankees and maybe help him make the team? Instead, he has to walk off the mound and take a shower. Not very courteous.”

The rules for spring training is that both managers have to agree to play extra innings.  Girardi didn’t agree.  And, it’s just a spring training game.

Oh, and that pitcher that Valentine was so concerned with helping make the team?  Yeah, he sent him down to the minors the next day.

Dear Bobby, why not at least wait until the games actually count before trying to steal the stage with useless gamesmanship?
