787 Dreamliner Inaugural Flight: NRT-BOS

For the second time, I really can’t believe how good I feel getting off a 12-hour+ flight.  I’ll have some posts later about my time in Tokyo and reviews of the lounges at NRT, but I’m sure people are much more interested in hearing about the 787.

The flight was scheduled to leave at 11:30 am local time, with an announced boarding time of 11:10.  At 11:15 we still hadn’t started boarding.  By the time everyone was on board, we were running about 20 minutes late.  Not a huge deal, but it did keep me from trying to grab an earlier flight upon arrival in BOS.

I had seat 3G this time, as I wanted to see what the experience was like on a non-bulkhead seat.  Seat spacing was very similar to other international business class products I’ve experienced over the past year or so.

There are two main benefits to the non-bulkhead seat versus the bulkhead seat I had on the BOS-NRT flight:

1.  If you plan to utilize the in-flight entertainment system (IFE), the screen is much bigger than the one in the bulkhead seat.  And, obviously, it’s a lot easier to access than the one in the bulkhead seat, which is a bit of a pain to pull out of the armrest area.

2.  There is an extra storage area just below the IFE.  It’s an expandable slot that will hold a decent amount of stuff.  For those of you who have a MacBook Air, mine fits just perfectly in there with room to spare!

When I have a bit more time, I’ll post the menu and food pics from NRT-BOS.
