41 Hours in Tokyo: Walking Around Tokyo Part 2

Walking Around Tokyo

Some quick pics of different experiences as I walked around Tokyo:

Times Square-like buildings on my way to Imperial Gardens

Interesting idea in the subway.  The vast majority of subway stations had these automatic gates on the edge of the platform so you couldn’t fall accidentally in front of a train.

Massive Tokyo Metro Government buildings

I believe this is the Tokyo Egg Building.

One of the many humongous department stores around the Shinjuku train station.  Very much like Times Square with all the lights and neon.

On the recommendation of the Park Hyatt, I had lunch at Seryna in Shinjuku.  There are two sister restaurants here, one that specializes in Shabu Shabu and the other in teppanyaki.  I’m a huge tepanyaki fan, but I’d only had Shabu Shabu once before in the states.  So, I decided to try traditional Shabu Shabu.  Shabu Shabu is a cooking style where you take thin slices of meat and boil them in water or broth.  It’s a little like fondue.  I chose Wagyu beef (I mean, when in Rome) with some crab legs and the server brought my pot of water over shortly thereafter.

The server started putting the meat into the water for me.  The first couple of slices were ready shortly, and then she started loading the pot up with vegetables.  Since it started as plain water, I think I would have enjoyed it more if they had boiled the vegetables first to add some flavor to the water.  The sauces were fine, the crab very tender.  But, overall I found myself a bit underwhelmed.  Happy to have experienced it, but probably would choose teppanyaki or sushi if given the choice.
