The 787 Hits Another Milestone

As the WSJ reports yesterday, Boeing is finally turning out 787s that can go right to “preflight operations” as opposed to being sent to another factory for hundreds (or thousands) of loose ends to be tied up.

As they have tested the plane, there have been thousands of small changes that Boeing has made to get the plane ready for service.  When we went visit Boeing, we saw dozens of 787s parked everywhere awaiting all these final changes, as they kept the main assembly line moving to push through as many planes to some form of completion.

They’ve recently bumped up production to 3.5 planes per month and should soon be at 5.  I’ve detailed my experiences on the 787 and how game changing I think this plane is.  It’ll be great to see more of these planes enter service.
